Nice barrel, but the huge gas port defeats the purpose
I’ve had a generally positive experience with KAK, but this barrel is a miss for its intended application. Read several reports online indicated the gas port size on the barrel is .81 which would’ve been the largest size I’d find acceptable for a 50/50 suppressed build. Thankfully I had a YHM suppressor gas block in the parts bin waiting for this moment. Open it up to .076 and it’s as reliable and soft shooting as I’d imagine an ar could be. Running an H1 and standard spring. You’re better off with a well-ported carbine gas 12.5 than an overgassed mid.

12.5 mid
Very pleased with this barrel. I had been curious for some time about the shorter length mid gas barrels, and must say the guys at KAK ported this thing perfectly. So far I’ve been using carbine receiver extension, sprinco blue, h1 buffer, suppressed and un suppressed, mostly with bulk m193. Sort of a strange combo; but that’s what yielded the best shooting experience, reliability, and function. H2 was fine as well, but the h1 seemed to be enough, with maybe a barely perceived less recoil because of the mass difference. Love the profile, and fit and finish of the barrel is great. I was on the fence between this sku, and the cold hammer forged, I’m sure that one would be great as well

Good choice for all-around rifle builds
This is a very good choice for hard use, all-around rifle build, especially if you may see occasional strings of rapid fire, and/or suppressed firing schedules. The chrome lining protects better from accelerated chamber wear. The phosphate finish is the perfect base for your favorite coating. And the 12.5" length is damn-near perfect for the general purpose rifle.
